Currently, we offer three educational classes to family members of the consumers we serve: Strengthening Families, Consumer/Family Education Regarding Medications, and Alcohol & Other Drug Abuse and Dependency. The classes are free, but persons wishing to attend must register at the receptionist desk before attending.
Strengthening Families
It is open to any Crawford County family, and, best of all, it is free. Each meeting will last two-and-a-half hours, placing the parents and youth in separate discussion groups for the first hour, and spending the second hour in an active fun time. During this hour, the families practice working together on building new relational skills. A free meal is also included for each session.
While the parents are meeting together to learn and discuss such matters as: “Love and Limits, The Value of Good Listening Skills, Drug and Alcohol Prevention” and “How to Encourage Good Behavior,” their children will learn about dealing with peer pressure, making good choices about friends, following rules and being responsible.
When the children join their parents for the second hour, they will learn and practice concepts like: solving problems together, appreciating family members, and understanding and identifying family values. These topics, and other practical skills, are included in these sessions.
Merited with an exceptional recognition by the US Dept of Education and the Dept of Justice, as well as the National Institute of Drug Abuse, this program is regularly offered at Community Counseling Services.
