We can help...

...children who have been traumatized in their young lives through a series of events, whether molestation, violence, sexual abuse, verbal abuse, etc., exhibiting symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, or of Anger, or Withdrawal. We will address these problems- -whatever the person brings to the table- - either through the traditional approach; through a mix of drawing and questioning; or through a specialized treatment where we try to artificially recreate the situation, but now in a safe environment to let the person’s brain get a chance to reprocess what has affected her.

We can also help someone who is clinically depressed. He may feel sad all the time and just can’t snap out of it; he has little or no hope for his future. He feels like he is a failure; that he is guilty and is being punished. He has to push hard to do anything. He also believes that there is no good way out. This may affect his sleeping or his eating habits; it would, therefore, affect his physical health. This is a person our counselors are prepared to help. Working from an assessment of his situation, we can then guide him through the steps toward recovery.

Another person we help has difficulties with the basic fundamentals of life due to a serius brain disorder, such as schizophrenia.  This person would not be considered disabled to the point of needing a 24-hour facility, but cannot function on his own.  He may have trouble with basic decisions, or with problem-solving.  Often, he cannot perform important tasks, such as caring for his daily personal needs, connecting with area services, or in maintaining his utilities.  By staying committed to helping him achieve the most that is possible, our Case Managers will provide an umbrella of support, not only to help him gain and keep skills, but also to cover for those areas that will never function.

In our work, we consider any gain for our consumers to be a success. Some improve some of the way; others improve the whole way. Counseling is effective and does help, and we can see definite improvements in at least 8 of every 10 people we help.
